Brief history
In 1889, the Marist Brothers opened a boys’ school in Koch Street, Johannesburg. In 1966 the school relocated to Marian College's present location in Linmeyer. The altar from the Koch Street school was placed in the new school chapel.

Until 1980, Marist Brothers Linmeyer was a boys’ school. After becoming co-educational, the school increased rapidly to its present enrolment of approximately 1200. The expansion necessitated the building of a separate high school.

Extra Murals

Involvement in extra-mural activities is encouraged to further foster the ideals of team work and support that are a part of our Marist tradition. Emphasis is placed on involvement and personal accomplishment, within the broader intention of inter-school competitiveness. Numerous cultural societies exist to cater to the needs of students whose interests extend beyond the playing fields. These include such diverse activities as pottery, chess, photography, wildlife and the co-worker outreach groups, to name but a few.

Students at Marist Brothers are given the opportunity to participate in numerous sporting activities and are coached by qualified instructors or professional coaches. Many sports are offered at inter-school level, with students often representing their area or province.
