Founding
& History
A
second Loreto school was opened in Pretoria by the sisters of the
Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto Sisters) in 1923 in
Hillcrest.
To
accommodate the development of the University of Pretoria, the
Hillcrest school relocated in 1976. Named Queenshill Convent, it
catered for learners from Grade 1 to Standard 10. In 1983 a new
pre-primary building was constructed.
In 1993, circumstances made it necessary for the sisters to move
from the "convent on the hill" to their house in Skinner
Street. The high school was closed and the school became
co-educational. It was renamed Loreto School Queenswood. Extensive
renovations were carried out in 1999.
The
Loreto Sisters remain the owners of the school and are represented
on the Governing Body. They continue to guide the operations of the
school.

Subjects
In the Foundation Phase we have Literacy (as well as Computer
English), Numeracy (as well as Computer Maths), Life Skills
(including Religious Education, Art, Media, Physical Education and
Hymn Singing).
In the Intermediate and Senior Phase we offer : English (as
well as Computer English), Afrikaans (1st Additional language),
Sepedi (2nd Additional Language),Maths (as well as Computer Maths)
Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Economic Management Sciences,
Technology, Media, Computer Skills and Life Orientation (Art,
Religious Education and Physical Education included). We also have a
Club and Hymn Singing period.
