Founding
& History
Emaromeni Primary School was founded by the Dominican Sisters of Newcastle in Benoni in 1935 and was called St. Joseph’s School up until it was changed in 1970 because the Department of Education asked that the name of the school be different from the name of the Parish St. Joseph’s as it was confusing both parish and school are in the same premises.
Our total intake is 273 learners, all from the surrounding townships and squatter camps.
In 2001 our learners began to participate more fully in extra sporting codes as local area facilities became available to us. In summer we walk down to the local swimming pool, where learners are learning to swim at last and in winter we now have access to tennis courts so that learners can learn to play the sport. We also play soccer, netball, volley-ball and cricket on a neighbouring school’s fields.
