The history of John Martin Catholic School dates back to 1927. The two schools, Saint Mary’s and Saint Peter’s amalgamated in 1997 to form what became known as John Martin Catholic School. The school caters for learners from Munsieville, Swaneville, Kagiso and the adjacent informal settlements.
We offer Mathematics Saturday classes for grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Learners from other schools around Kagiso are welcomed to attend. At any given time, a quarter of attending learners are not from John Martin Catholic School.
The school has a fully-fitted, fully-functional computer centre. All learning areas are catered for.
The school’s science room is up and running. The Technology section will be added in due course.
The school has a feeding scheme. It employs two ladies full time to help in preparing food for under-nourished learners.
The school provides facilities for the following sporting codes: soccer, netball, volleyball, cricket, chess and athletics. This year two of our athletes competed in the Provincials. The school is in partnership with the local municipality to offer swimming lessons. Karate lessons will be offered in the next term (3rd term).
In addition to the above mentioned sporting codes, the school also caters for cultural dancing, gumboots dancing, choral music, visual arts and debating.
Cultural games like diketo, kgati and dibeke are offered by the school.
