About our school

Brescia House School is an independent Catholic day school for girls, situated in the heart of Bryanston. Over time, the school has developed an excellent reputation for the development of outstanding young girls who, benefiting from a well-rounded and balanced education, are able to make a meaningful contribution to society.

The school takes its name from the city of Brescia in Lombardy, Northern Italy, where St Angela Merici founded the first teaching order of the nuns in 1535. She placed her order under the banner of St Ursula – thus the name, Ursuline Sisters.

The motto of the school, Serviam, means ‘I will serve’, and a spirit of service to the community is encouraged in the pupils.

The environment of Brescia House School is a caring one, where the primary need of each child to belong is met, where pupils are accepted and appreciated for who they are, and are respected and valued as important individuals.

Brescia House School congratulates their matriculants of 2020 on their 100% pass rate. In addition to this, more than 75% of their pupils achieved more than 70% in English Home Language. The school acknowledges all their pupils’ achievements – those who excelled in the National Senior Certificate examinations of the Independent Examinations Board and those who achieved personal triumphs in reaching their full potential.

Facilities

The school is a full service educational facility, offering a variety of curricular and co-curricular educational programmes and child care facilities. Through specialist training of its staff, Brescia House School is a leader in education and child development.

Facilities include the use of the neighbouring parish church, prayer rooms, a chapel, two halls, an auditorium, a resource centre, computer centres, music block, netball courts, tennis courts, three swimming pools, hockey fields, a min-astro, after care (for ages 5 – 13), therapists (occupational and speech), extra lessons and counselling.

The introduction of wireless technology and laptops to all students in grades 4 to 12 ensures that the students receive a first-class education and are well-equipped for the future. In addition to this, Brescia House School has been selected by Microsoft as a Microsoft Showcase School for five years running.

In 2017 the school launched an online portal linked to the Tuckshop, The Brescia Shoppe and Library systems. This portal allows parents to monitor their daughter's spending and to see her library usage. For the tuckshop, parents also have the option of blocking certain purchases, particularly for foods that could contain certain allergens.

Extra Murals

Emphasis is placed on sporting activities as a way of encouraging social interaction, co-operation, sharing and teamwork.

Offering two hockey fields, a mini astro, a full aquatic complex with heated pools and a hotpot, eight tennis courts, netball courts and good relationships with the Bryanston Country Club and the Randburg Sports facility, Brescia House School boasts not only wide participation in sporting activities, but also top achievements in diving, swimming, tennis, hockey, netball, indoor hockey, indoor netball, girls’ soccer and athletics.
