About our school

St David's Marist Inanda forms part of the legacy of St Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Order in the 18th Century. Living through the turmoil of the French Revolution, Marcellin grew to become a great educator and a humble leader, founding the Congregation of the Little Brothers of Mary, the origin of the Marist education system.

The secret of his success lay in the simplicity of his relationships, and in the confidence he placed in his followers. He had a special place in his heart for the poor and the disadvantaged. At his death he left behind 280 Brothers and 48 schools with thousands of students.

Today St David's shares in the rich legacy of St Marcellin. It is one of hundreds of Marist schools, youth institutions and universities around the world that strive to carry on his work.

Since 1941, St David’s Marist Inanda has, in the Marist ethos, been a place of both teaching and learning; a place where children receive the benefits of an education at a school whose strength and history afford every child the opportunity to achieve his full potential, to find both roots and wings.

Each boy is encouraged to develop his own special talents and achieve excellence in our core areas of Academics, Cultural, Leadership, Service or Sport. We believe that our boys leave us with the values and skills needed to make a meaningful contribution to their families and to society.

"To teach children well, you must first love them, and love them all equally."

Outreach: Marist Schools live out the vision of their Founder Saint Marcellin Champagnat daily by providing a holistic education that envisages each boy living out the key values that Saint Marcellin aspired to: Humility, Modesty and Simplicity. At the heart of this vision is the realization that as much as the boys are seeking to achieve excellence in the spheres of Academics and Sport there is a greater striving to fulfil the vision of Service to touch the lives of many under-privileged South Africans. Thus the imperative of service at St. David’s is to “awaken Learners’ consciences to the problems that affect society” and “involve our pupils in charitable works that bring them into contact with situations of poverty”.

Part of St. David’s criteria is that all boys are involved in full time service to assist those less fortunate than themselves: this is done proactively, through a hands-on approach. This approach affords the boys opportunities of being involved with people and realizing the difficulties others, especially those of their own age, face.
